In the presidential elections of 2007 and 2012, the streets of Paris were the scene of a singular political confrontation. I decided to take photos and to start forming an archive of images that may constitute a political-visual street debate, and I am actually interested in developing it, as part of a research about the Western Societies. This collection of pictures show a combination of words and images that time and chance alter to produce unexpected results.
“Go Away, Piece of Shit” is a short sample from the collection. One night I was passing near the Montmartre neighborhood, and I found a poster of the French Republican right-wing presidential candidate, Nicolas Sarkozy, in a newsstand, with a sign attached to it saying “get out of here, you piece of shit. The next morning, Sarkozy’s image had been replaced by that of a woman in a women’s fashion magazine. With this change overnight, this comment is no longer political but sexist.
